Newton Cottages, Northumberland: Self-Catering Holiday Cottage Information

Access Statement

Newton Cottages has two identical cottages, a pair of semi detached buildings Cullernose Cottage and Haven Cottage, in Newton by the Sea.

The properties are identical mirror images of each other, so in describing one cottage the other is described automatically.

Parking is available for two cars in each property, to the gable end of each, and comprises of a slightly sloping paved area accessed off Boatman s Place, a short lane ending in a cul-de -sac. Refuse bins and a log store are accessible beside the car parking area.

A paved path runs along the front of the properties and there are 2 steps into the property, both 75mm deep. The front door has 70mm of clearance and opens into a small hall, carpeted, with a flush entrance mat.

A cupboard in the hall houses the gas central heating boiler and the electric service board and fuse box. The washing machine is also in this small room which has a low door 5 feet 6inches high, but a 6 foot 6 inch ceiling.

There is a shower room off the hall with a 70mm door and a ceramic tiled floor. There is also a similar sized door leading into a bunk bedroom with two full size bunks.

Seven carpeted steps lead down to the sitting room and open plan kitchen and dining area. \The floor in this room is wooden and loose rugs soften the effect.

Double doors lead from this room onto the paved patio and garden and there is a 75mm step out of the house into the garden. The garden is sloped grass cut short to form and enclosed garden, private to each individual house.

Returning to the hall, 7 pine steps 33 inches wide lead up from the hall to a carpeted landing off which there are two bedrooms, one with a 5 foot double bed and the other with two 3 foot single beds.

Seven carpeted steps lead from the carpeted landing up to the family bathroom which has a bath, loo and wash hand basin and a tiled floor.

Because of the layout of the house, with three half staircases, these properties are not suitable for guests who have a problem with staircases, and there is nothing I can physically do to make the houses more accessible.
